Site of the Day: CarterDigital.com.au

There are many things to love about this design. But I want to focus on one tiny element that would seem insignificant—except that I have to review a site every day, so I tend to focus on the details. Scroll down the page a bit to the collage of images, the one that showcases the agency’s work. They use a popular approach where the colors in the images are removed so that they all match. Then when you mouse over an item the color returns. In this case, I love that they didn’t go with the standard grayscale. The grayscale approach is tempting, because you can do it with CSS. But creating these duotone style images takes more time. The end results is worth it, though, as the colors more closely match the site’s palette. It’s one of those touches that gives the site an extra kick of awesomeness.
